Working on three Caddys, 1966, 1967, and 1968 in the next couple of weeks.  The master switch is it for delay purposes?  If you were interested in making a more durable climate control system, would it be better to use a relay?  If so does anyone have a wiring diagram of the concept.  Want to keep the look of originality, so master switch would remain in place, but maybe wired different (relay wired in parallel).

Thanks,

Scott,
Are you planning on removing the "delay" function that is one of the purposes of the master switch?  Are the Master switches on the cars you say you will be working on bad?

Greg,

I can always count on you to answer my climate control questions -thanks!

Some of the switches are good and some are bad.  The cars I work on are not daily drivers or trailer queens, but driven say 2,000 or 3,000 miles a year in nice weather and the owners want reliable heat and a/c operational.  Most of them like the delay feature removed because when they turn on the car they worry until the climate control starts up.

Read on the threads from the 65-66 club and it seemed like the master switch was discussed as if the only function was delay.  If that is true would be interested in by-passing it.

Thanks,

Scot

Scott,
Secondary feature is the verification that all vacuum circuits are intact.  Typically if desired  the master switch is used as the "pilot circfuit" for a power relay, thus retaining all the original functions.
