I need to go to the shop doing my tank restoration and check my running boards so it will be a few days before I can answer but I will certainly buy them if mine need replacing.

There are several different part numbers here between 37-50, 39-50, 40-50 and 40-52 plus in some cases left and right.  I don't know if this is just length differences or what.  I had thought that at least for 40-52 the molding was the same between the running board model and not but according to the parts book that is not the case.  Again it may just be a length thing.  Have you researched the differences here.  There should be good demand for non running board models also.  90% of the originals of these must at least have holes drilled in them besides dent damage.

Yep! A previous owner drilled holes on the driver's side molding. Glad I rescued it from his inept hands. I'm potentially interested. Probably only need driver's side.

Hello C.R. Patton. Can you tell us more on the moldings? Are you personally making them? Are they going to be exactly like the originals ? Guaranteeing them to fit ? Are they going to be polished ? Can only 1 be purchased ? How long will the wait time be ? I know this is a lot of questions but I think everyone is curious about what you are wanting to do. I would like to have a set for a '37 LaSalle coupe. I don't the length. Probably others can help out with the specifics... Good luck... John Lehman... CLC# 26365...

Hello John

I really appreciate your great questions.
(1) I'm a history professor
(2) I needed a set of running board stainless for my LaSalle
(3) The fabricator asked me to to assemble model year set orders
(4) The stainless will be polished
(5) 90 day time frame

If anyone has questions about a LaSalle from 1927-1940, I will try to answer. I am very grateful for your questions.
I love LaSalle talk.

Chuck,
Count me in for a set that would fit my 37 LaSalle 4 dr. sedan (5019).  They should be identical to the ones that would fit Jason Bice's car.  I had considered taking mine to a SS restoration specialist, but my past experience tells me that this is very expensive, and not entirely satisfactory.  The beating and polishing process thins the metal, and things change dimensionally.

Anyhow, I applaud your  initiative in putting this together.   At some point, I would assume you would want a deposit  in at least 1/2 the amount of the final cost.  Just let me know, and a check will be forthcoming.

Also, if shipping becomes an issue (are these considered "oversized" by UPS?), I am certainly up for being the single point of contact for Northern California.  I'd be glad to deliver any sets in the immediate SF Bay Area.  I would also volunteer to deliver sets between the Bay Area and Chico CA, my other haunt.

Hello Mark

I am very grateful for your initiative to be a point of contact for Northern California. Henceforth as our brand matures we will undertake more group orders for parts to ensure high quality at a reasonable rate.

Hello

I'm a little surprised that this post has not generated more interest. We must  proceed.

I had a good conversation this morning with the craftsman.

He has the mold for 1937 LaSalle but he needs someone to send an example of 1938, 1939, and 1940, which he will return the sample to the owner. Place all questions and orders directly to him.

I assume he needs a good example not an old/missing chunks type of running board.

I can personally attest to the quality of Northfield Forming's work.  They did the running board trim for my '35 Cadillac in stainless as well as the 2 stainless pieces that go around the rear mounted spare tire cover.  He already had the patterns for the running board trim and the spare tire cover trim for my '35.  Very nice work.
Northfield Forming has been on the Huge list of Cadillac vendors over at the MCLC ever since the list was drawn up.

I would be very interested in mouldings for a 1937.

I have a very damaged set.  They are very thin stainless and different R to L.  The ends are different front to back.  They are quite tall, nearly 2". Cross section is triangular with the vertex pointed up.  Not sure what the 38-40 mouldings look like I think.  Mine have blind clips to hold them to the board.  I have a 40 but it is a running board delete car.  Not sure what the mouldings look like on 38-40 but I don't think they would be the same.

I was thinking of making some by machining some solid SS stock to the cross section.  This would take quite a bit of work and tooling, no doubt.

Interested in the running board stainless for my 1937 LaSalle convertible coupe

This topic is over 4 years old!! I would say no moldings were made.

That, and no one mentioned that the responders were talking about five or six (or more) different moldings. (All for the same price?) This is Cadillac we're talking about here. They didn't use the same molding year after year to save money. If they needed one a 1/64" different from one year to another to satisfy the designers, that is what they made. (Of course I'm being facetious but all of them were usually different.)
