Hi all,

I have a 1940 Cadillac 60 Special and guess what...it needs a tank.  allcads offers 1941 Tanks and Ed says  "We have sold a number of 1941 gas tanks for the 40…..it takes a little work.

Not having a 1941 nearby, does any here know exactly what type of mods are needed to put a repro tank from a 41 into a 40?

All help appreciated.

Tom,
Realistically... "Big Ed" should know off the top of his head what's involved! 39 & 40 60S are the same. The MPB shows them different than other 40 & 41 cars. Press him for an answer.
Brad Ipsen may also have that info & he's always very helpful

A 40-60S tank has a hard neck on it.  In other words there is no separate fill nozzle attached by a rubber hose with clamps.  It is a solid fill nozzle attached directly to the tank.  Not an easy tank to install because of this.  A 41-60S interchanges with a 41-62 which does have a separate nozzle.  I think it would be a custom installation to make a 41 fit.  You would have to come up with a fill nozzle since it is completely different location in 41.  I just don't know if the shape of the tank is the same or different.  If different you would have to come up with new mounting.

Tom or Brad,
Can one of you guys post a picture of a 40 60S tank? I need to see the hard neck & how it attaches.
Thanks, Bob

The hard neck could be cut off and attached by rubber hose to the original filler end, Ive done that on several Buick's because of how difficult it is to get the tank out with that fixed neck, but if the neck position is different as Brad said then that's a whole new game.

Here are some photos of the 40 gas tank in the car and a spare junk tank that came with the car.
