New Member and thought I would post pictures of my 56 Cadillac I bought in April of 2013. Car was 70 miles north of me. Drove up to take a look at it and decided to buy it since I sold a couple of old tractors and a project car a couple of months prior. Car was driven to Kentucky from California and then stored in a garage for 28 years. Previous owner went through the brakes and fuel system. I replaced the brake booster/ master cylinder, hoses and water pump. Transmission was rebuilt along with a new torque converter. Drove it a little before winter hit. While checking out the gear box, I noticed that there is a freeze plug leaking. Looks like the engine is going to be pulled. A few pics of the car when I first bought it.

Hello Rutledge

Welcome to the CLC and the Forum!

Nice car. I like the way you are systematically travelling through the mechanicals. I would suggest that you join a CLC region near your residence to enjoy the full benefits of membership. I look forward to meeting you and viewing your Cadillac at our next CLC Grand National in Lake George next summer.
All good men own a Cadillac but great gentlemen drive a LaSalle. That is the consequence of success.

Looks like a very straight car to start with.

Hi Mr Rutledge,

What a great car and one of my favorites.

It looks like it can be enjoyed as a survivor.

In addition to the work you have done so far I would also consider having the wheel cylinders professionally rebuilt as I am not trusting of 58 year old wheel cylinders even if they were NOS.

I would also suggest a dual master cylinder be installed if one is available.  I believe safety trumps originality.

JR,
What a great example of a pivital year - 1956.
The car still had the classic fins before the designers went nuts and made them skinny and pointing them in the wrong direction with the 1957 - just one man's opinion to those who love the 57.  And I give a get-out-of-jail to the exception for the 1957 models - the Eldorado.
Enjoy your car and drive it much.
Have fun,

Thanks for the replys! Hadn't had a chance to check out the membership details. The previous owner replaced the old wheel cylinders. New fuel tank, sending unit, brake lines, and fuel lines. I also plan on checking out the heater cores this winter.
