My 66 Fleetwood keeps pressurizing the fuel tank, apparently through the fuel vapour return line to the extent that fuel leaks out at the fuel filter.
the tank cap is vented from the outside
Is something amiss with the fuel filter set up.
I don't want to take the easy. Step of drilling a hole in the tank cap

G'day John,

Not sure if these tanks were sealed units, but I wouldn't go drilling anywhere, as this could allow water into the system.

The return line is only in the cars fitted with Air Conditioning, but this in itself shouldn't cause a problem.

Someone will reply with the correct information soon, as most people on this site that have that intimate knowledge are most likely asleep.

You will get used to it.   At least we are in the Future.   And I am down in Tasmania.

G'day John,
Your '66 has a vent on the tank that is located at the front (towards the front of the car) of the tank.  It is a (about) 5/8 inch diameter tube that rises above the tank and is open to the atmosphere.  IOt is possible that the vent has become clogged, or even that the rubber connector has collapsed.  UI would suggest you take a look at that first.

thank you greg, but no sign of any vent pipe at the front of the fuel tank

Take a look at the tank top edge on the drivers side front corner area. There should be a vent nipple there, it connected to a metal u shaped tube with a rubber hose connector. The vent tube clipped to the body above the Axel. Maybe someone capped off the vent nipple which would cause all sorts of issues with the fuel and tank operation.

Guys,
66 was a split year. Some tanks were vented & some were not. The wrong gas cap can cause problems...
