Hello David

Thanks for posting this.  It is a fun mystery to follow!

Yes, but the bottom one has a 1961/62 windshield.  The one in the original picture has a 1959/60 windshield.  Interesting!

The car is a 1959 with altered fins. The front end ensemble, rear quarter panels and rear bumper are all 1959.

The bottom car pictured in the 1959 model lineup that Roy posted is the ultra rare Eldorado Brougham which had a special windshield and roofline unique to that particular model. The bodies were made by Pininfarina in Italy, not Spain as claimed in that sheet.

Series 75 cars retained the 59/60 roofline until the 1965 model year.

I think our best bet will be the Stengel custom work, hope Bob will be able to find out something on that.

i actually think the 60 fins look great with the 59 rest of it :)

the lower quarter panels fit so well with the 60 fin,

I would have like it better in stock form myself - boldly representing American decadence as only a '59 Cadillac can.  >:D

Actually my friend that roofline stayed THROUGH the 65 model year...the 75s styling was a year behind

I was wondering where you got that listing with B&W photos of all the 1959 models.
I like the story about the Broughams "made in Spain", and the one that fell into the ocean!
Anyway, that "1959-60" limo certainly is a "mystery car". Reminds me of the story about the "1959 Motorama Cadillac" with TV in dash, once touted by a Florida used car dealer ... who shall be nameless.

Personally, I don't think Peter Stengel had anything to do with it; the style is too "classic", too "Cadillac". IMHO these are regular 1960 Cadillac fins grafted onto a 1959 "Series 75" model. It probably  was a customer request, made late in the 1959 model year; the modification may have been done at the Cadillac plant without any SO number being issued.

Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this.

The 1960 and 1961 "Series 75" limousine fines look very much alike.

Here also are 2 shots of the alleged "1959 Motorama Cadillac"

The tailfins of the 1962 Series 75 are also similar to those of 60/61.

Actually, Series 75 bodies were basically the same from 1959 - 1962. The skegs of 61/62 Series 75 were simply grafted onto the body sides.

I agree with your analysis of the subject car of this thread in that it's a stock '59 Series 75 with modified fins - done either by an aftermarket coachbuilder or at the plant and may or may not have been assigned an SO.

Personally I'm inclined to think it was factory altered.

Somebody spent good money to murder a '59 Cadillac convertible.  :(

Hello Doug

Interesting hackery of that convertible.  Left fin is cut flush with the top of the quarter and the right one is left a bit proud.

Almost looks like the top of the left door and quarter are cut down as well. Some type of movie/filming car maybe?

Too kind.

The "butcher" should be sentenced to an eternity driving a Yugo. Compared to that, electrocution, walking the plank and hard labor - and clipping one's fingernails in a lawnmower - all sound quite pleasant.  ::)

I can accept what was done with the Series 75 (subject car) but what was done to convertible is sacrilege.
