Found this under the dash on my 49 Caddy....

I’m not an expert on the 49 Caddy, but it looks to me like three resistors.  The two bottom ones look like they might be adjustable, the top one is fixed.  They all are for high current judging by the ceramic construction.  Might be able to tell more if we could see the other side. 

I assume you know the wires and lugs shown are modern and not original to the car.

If they have a manual way of adjustment on the other side it could be rheostats for the heater motors speeds maybe?

It's definitely not original to the car. The car was upgraded to 12 volts -- could it have anything to do with that? Attached is a photo of the back side...

Thats what it is, rheostats between the heater motors and the 12 volt supply. I run them on my cars but never seen 2 in series.

The strange part is it was wired to my ignition.
