Jason,

I am currently in the process of rebuilding a WCD 486s for my 42'.

I can tell you the obvious... Make sure all of your electrical is dialed in properly first. Good wires, correctly gapped plugs, condensor, coil... the whole sha-bang.

If your carb was rebuilt by a professional than it should be close.

There are 2 idle adjustment screws at the base of the carb. Start with either one. While idling, turn either one out until the idle gets rough. Then turn it back in until it returns to idle and starts to get rough again. The back it out until you have a nice idle. Repeat this step for the other idle screw. You can keep adjust each antil you have a good idle.

Note: I am not an expert but I followed this advise received and I have a nice running car. I am typing up the rebuild method I used but that'll take another day or 2. After a few days of good driving I am supposed to do these idle adjustments again during which time, I will check the plugs for discoloration or deposits. If I get anything that makes me hesitate, I will take it to a carb specialist I have down the road.

On another note, Joe Ceretti just rebuilt his 38. Look under the "Restoration Blog" or search him for his contact email. He just finished putting his car back together and there is a nice running engine in there. I would bet he know well what to do and not to do.

I'm curious to see what others share.

Could it be the carb thats the problem?? The Carter was only used on the 50 series.   60,65.70 and 75 all used the 1 & 1/4" Stromberg. The 50 was a 322 cu in and the manual lists that as having a 1" Carter WDO-3745.  That size would be a little small on the 346 engine. Just a thought.

The correct one is an AA-25, not easy to find and I didn't rate them much. Any one of the later ones will do but will need some modification to linkages etc.

Frank,

The AA25 is the correct carb and it did come on the LaSalle for 1937 no matter what folks say.

The AA25 has an electric choke and is not a bad carburetor. The problem is this same carburetor fits the 1937 Cord so they go for big bucks.

The later AAV 26 carbs will fit with only one modification. The 1939 AAV 26 on up had the heat choke so one needs the manifold with the heat sink for the pipe going to the choke. Otherwise these will fit without problems.

I am over just providing a brief overview of this.

If you have the original AA 25 and want to send me a picture I can show you what is missing.

I concur with you completely John, I didn't say otherwise, I just said that the Cadillac 70 series didn't have a Carter but a AA-25 Stromburg.
