Removed the oil pump on my 1970 Cadillac Sedan DeVille and there is no gasket.  Engine is cast iron and oil pump housing is aluminum should I buy a gasket when I replace it or just re-install without one?

There is supposed to be a paper gasket there, and I wouldn't be replacing the pump without one.

Plus, just use oil to coat the gasket, as you don't want any silastic or gasket goo to get inside the pump when bolting it up.

If you mount the Oil pump without the gasket, the pump won't turn! And breakes ...

The gasket comes either with a full engine set or with a new oil pump.  I have never seen the gasket by itself.

I haven't either now that you mention it.  Maybe Marty at MTS can help with one.

The gasket is only a paper one, and it would be easy to replicate.

All you need is a hole punch of the right size, 5/16" if I remember correctly, and a finger to "rub" the outline of the pump and then a pair of scissors to trim.

Don't use a thick piece of card board as increasing the pump distance from the block will decrease the oil pressure.

I probably have a spare one here, but there would be one a lot closer.

Thanks, I ordered the gasket from MTS just now, so will use that to put it back together.
