Can anyone suggest a source for rebuilding a 6V starter solenoid?  I bought a used one as a spare, but it doesn't work.  Ideally, I'd like to have it converted to work with 12V since that's what I'm running (starter is being converted).  1940 Fleetwood 60S

Hi Phil,
I recently posted asking much the same thing about my '49 and didn't get any response about solenoid rebuild. I'm getting ready to test mine but was wondering when you say yours doesn't work, does it do anything when you apply voltage to it? Are you able to check the resistance across the starter relay?

It is currently at the auto electric shop.  When I get it back I am going to see if it can he disassembled (likely)
Could very well just need the contactors cleaned up after 70 years.  I'll keep you posted.
I'm also going to call the guys at Terrill Machine in De Leon, Tx.  If anyone should know of a source they should.

Personally Paul I have never seen a solenoid that didn't work, its always the relay thats at fault, mostly the contacts but if the winding are burnt out thats pretty much it I would think.   I think it highly unlikely you would find anyone to re-wind those tiny windings for 12 volt but you don't need to anyway. I have never changed a solenoid yet with all the conversions I've done and a Buick I converted in 1983 is still running its original starter along with every car done since.
