I have noticed several 41 Sixty-Specials over the years, including my own, with a crooked right rear taillight apparently because the hole in the fender was stamped wrong. Has anyone else seen this or have any knowledge about this?

Terry, I have noticed that also but it was usually on a restored car and I just attributed it to the re assembly process. I wonder how much trouble it would be to try and correct that.    Harry

Terry, this was first noted some thirty-forty years ago in the S/S. The conclusion was that it was a production glitch and not worth fixing, probably knowing that the fender would not be used again in 1942 production.

If a customer noted the problem, a valid assumption may have been to give the buyer an allowance on his next car. Or free oil changes while he had the car. Whatever.

With your fantastic memory, I'm surprised that you didn't remember this. Of course, this was in your "Ignore the '41s as everyone has one" stage of collecting.

Barry:

I first saw the problem about 40 years ago, But I would say it was discussed in the S/S before I joined, because it wasn't in the S/S since Jan. '68, my first issue. I have often wondered about it, but as I was doing bodywork on my 41-60S a month ago, I was looking for it.

To fix it, I had to move (rotate) the tail light about 3/4 of an inch at the top of the lense to the right to make it vertical. The fin needs to be moved also.

Thanks for answering that question !
