I have a box of new tubes that I accumulated for a '41 radio.  If in fact anyone knows whether this radio is similar to my '47, I would keep the tubes.  If it is a whole different animal, then I would probably sell the new tubes to a club member

I'd guess that they were pretty much the same and hang onto them. There would have been no reason to change given the fact that you needed your first born as down payment for a new car back then.

I have heard that used car dealers kept cats around that drank their milk out of their "special" saucer on the back floor boards, and that saucer and cat had to go with the car. Or that the boss left his tie on the seat. You wanted the car, you had to buy the $500 tie. This was to get around the stated price ceiling the govt put on each used car.

You could get a SAMS PHOTOFACT for the 47, and see if it uses the tubes you have.
My guess is it mostly does.  I get all manuals for stuff, but with the radio model #
you might find the info on line for free.  Bruce Roe

Thank all of you.  The tube boxes will come out of the Hershey box and go on the shelf for the '47.

OK, Tony. Here's the tube complement for '41. It's totall;y different from the 42-47 sets.

RF: 7A7
Oscillator-mixer: 7B8
I.F. Amplifier- second Detector: 7E7
Fist Audio- Phase Inverter: 7F7
Power Amplifiers: 2-7C5.
Rectifier: 0Z4
The vibrator is the "interrupter" type, and doesn't care about battery polarity.

While Loktal base tubes have been unavailable for some years, there is little cause to worry about their availability. In many instances, Loktals are easier to find than the Octal based tubes used in the 42-47 sets. Look for them in the antique radio meets. If you look at a boxed tube, say, as an RCA, carefully open the box to see if what's in the box is what the box says. If not, keep looking.

I knew that as sure as I relied on "logic" Doug would chime in and correct me. He's been doing so for nearly fifty years...

Those loktals never really took hold, guess you would have to change the socket to cross over.  But
there are a surprising number of tubes on Eb*y.  I presume there were no 43/44/45/46 sets?  Bruce Roe

1942 thru 1945 was World War II. No cars were built in those years (except some special builds as I have heard. I lived through those years.

So did I.  After VE day, I remember my father leaving to teach in the Army Air Force in
the Pacific.  But he soon came back.  I asked my Mom why, she said the war was over.
She didn't explain to me about the bomb.

Later war surplus electronics or older stuff was what a young kid with no money could
get, which is why I still find those electronics interesting.  Bruce Roe
