Good morning.  I am brand new to CLC and wondered how I would go about finding this part for my wonderful car?  I was planning to be in a cruise Saturday night and the spring is broken and my handle is hanging at a 45 degree angle.  Passenger front door.  Thanks so much!

The springs that cause this are on ebay all the time but you have to dismantle the latch assembly to fit them. Its not too hard.

Hello Jona

Welcome to the Cadillac & LaSalle Club Forum!

Glad to read you are improving LaSalle. You may consider:

(1) Joining our national organization and a region near your residence.
(2) Acquiring an Authenticity Manual for your model.

Please post pictures of your beautiful LaSalle
All good men own a Cadillac but great gentlemen drive a LaSalle. That is the consequence of success.

Pictured below is a door latch assembly showing probably which spring is broken. As Steve said, ebay has the spring you need. Just get on ebay and type in     Cadillac door latch spring.    This should give you what is currently for sale on ebay for the year of your car.   Bill

You should know that there are two types of latches. If you have a 1940 Series 50 LaSalle, you need springs to fit 1940 Buick Special/Century and corresponding Olds/Pontiac bodies. If the windows look the same as these cars, that is the assembly that you will need.
If you have the streamlined 1940 LaSalle Series 52 car, they are the same as 1940-1941 Buick Super/Roadmaster; 1940-1941 Olds 98 and the senior Pontiac and would need the latch or spring from these cars, which are much easier to find than LaSalles. Good luck.
You can find what Series car you have by checking the cowl plate on the LH top of the body near the LH front windshield pillar.
