hoping someone can tell me witch post is the field on my 1940 generator  looking form the pulley back. mine is all scratch up  thanks steve hill  25502

If you look very carefully there should be an A and an F stamped in the metal next to the posts. Armature (Gen) and Field.

If not the small terminal is the field.
