Rear Window Leak

I am getting a little water in the truck on my '71 CDV.  I can see it drip from the rear shelf area near the speaker.  Im assuming this is a rear window issue, the truck rubber is all in good shape and water wouldn't get up there from the trunk lid anyway.

What's the word on resealing the rear window?  How does the stainless trim around the outside of the glass come off?  This is my first non-convertible Caddy so Im entering new territory here.

Thanks

G'day Scott,

Firstly, get inside the trunk, with the lid closed, and a torch, and then have the person that is holding the trunk key, squirt a garden hose onto the back of the car.

This way, you will see where the water is coming in, and then it will give you an idea what to do.

Id your car has the soft vinyl padding on the roof, then you are pretty likely to be pulling your hair out when you find that there is a large rusted hole in the bottom of the window surround

As for removal of the stainless trim, you will need a special tool to un-clip the retaining clips, and then removal of the glass is via the wire method to cut away the sealant.

But, be prepared for a shock.

Hi Bruce, you may ultimately be right about the rust, but this car is absolutely remarkable from a standpoint of preservation.  If there's rust under there, its the only blemish on an amazing time capsule of a car.

I'll try your investigation method as soon as I find someone I trust enough to lock me in the trunk

Didn't '71 GM cars have an issue with water coming in through the exhaust vents in the top of the trunk lid?  And that's why they moved those vents to the door jambs in '72.
