On 1960 Cadillac's, paint code 10 is black.

Any idea what paint code 10-1 is?  That's what is stamped on the cowl tag on a car I just purchased.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

I believe it's a white convertible, or if it's a Seville, Vicodec "padded" top.

That's the answer. It's a Seville with the remnants of the white top.
Any ideas on where to get the proper material?

Thanks

Brian,

The Seville roof was just regular “pin point” convertible top material. I believe ’60 is the same as earlier years with the top installed over a thin 1/16 to 1/8” thick padding. The roof feels padded to the touch but you shouldn’t see a bulge where it goes under chrome mouldings. You should check the Fisher Body manual about installation. In ’57 the front and rear glass must be removed, the top fabric is glued onto the body rib that the glass rubber mounts, then the mounting rubber, glass and chrome mouldings are installed.

The car is a really nice find.

Thanks Ralph.
Geez I hope the glass doesn't have to come out.
There are some thick stainless moldings all around the top. Hopefully it can be installed with the top glued under the moldings.

Thanks,

Sorry to spoil the party, but the glass needs to come out just like the 57.

That's too bad but it has to be done correctly so whatever it takes...

I always wondered about what  "Vicodec" really was.  People seem to assume its vinyl, which of course its not.  Just a hot 50's term for convertible top material, like my favorite, "Elascofab" for vinyl dash material.

That will make finding replacement material easier than I thought.

There are really wide moldings all the way around the top. If the top is glued down like a vinyl top that's not sufficient to hold it in place?  Are the front and rear windshield rubber moldings available?

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

The front and rear window rubber should be readily available.  All ’59 and 60 GM bubbletops use the same windows. You may want to check Steele. I bought the all the rubber for my Fleetwood and Eldorado from Restoration Specialties. They are a Steele dealer and had great pricing.

The issue with the top material being glued to the pinch weld is that the rubber and chrome fit over the pinchweld. The chrome just barely overlaps the rubber so you’d be trying to glue the top material to the rubber then trying to install the chrome over that joint.

Gotcha.

So the glass is held in with the rubber track, not glued in like later years? That would make removal easier. The later glass that is glued in is very hard to remove without breaking.

Steele is not what it used to be.
I did a post a while ago about the weatherstrip on my 60 convertible.
The set I got from Steele did not fit and the rubber was too stiff and would not compress to allow closing the top. They had no solution but took the kit back and have me a full refund.

I ended up getting a top weatherstrip kit from Convertible Top Specialists in FL.
They have an ebay store and had a good price and free shipping.

Just another suggestion on a source.

Thanks,

Brian
