67 deville power window switch

The power windows on my DeVille work from the driver controls, but the passenger switches only work at their location if I hold the emergency/normal/lock switch in the emergency position. Any ideas on why the passenger switches only work if I hold the emergency switch on?

Your contacts in the master switch are all oxidized. Work the switch a few dozen times. If that doesn't clear it up, take the master switch out and clean it.

Could also be a failed rubber conduit that protects the wires between door and body from being cut by sheet metal.  Remove the hinge cover at drivers and passenger door and inspect the conduit to insure it is not compromised.  If it is, then check the wires.  If the rubber conduit is compromised it needs to be fixed (along with wires), as a fire could result.  Steel Rubber sells them and they are difficult to install - start with passenger side first -trust me.  This happened on a 1966 Eldorado I was working on and it was not a fun job.

Thanks! I removed and disassembled the switch, cleaned the contacts and it works as it's supposed to.
