Hi Guys,

I've purchased a set of new springs for the driver side door flipper on my 57CDV. I would like to ask if anyone has replaced these springs before and if so. is there a knack to it or is it just plain straight forward.

Thanks

Pretty straight forward.   One thing I always notice on Cadillac and Buick with them is the driver side kicks out at the rear window.   Took me days of fiddling with the vent window and driver window to get it to seal properly.

You can't tighten the flipper too much or it will bough in the middle.   The roof is slightly curved.  There is a gasket that goes between the flipper and roof.  Run a bead of black sealant between the gasket and roof.  Also changing the mohair piece on the flipper will help cut down on wind noise.  Don't try to unscripted the original, just peel it back and remove as much as you can with pliers.  I had to cut one of the metal edges off the weather strip and then glued it to the flipper.  With the lower metal edge still attached,  the strip sits high and doesn't seal to the window.

Hi,
are the door flippers standard on 1957 cadillacs or an option?
My 1957 series 62 sedan dont have flippers and I never saw them in a parts catalog.

They were called mechanical weather strips.  Only coupes had them.
