Looking to get everything working that I can.  The trip odometer won't reset.  It registers mileage as it should, just won't reset.

I assume I'll need to remove the instrument cluster and send it off to someone who repairs speedometers?

Anyone have experience with something like this?

Thanks in advance,

chris.

I have had very good results with these people --- http://www.clocksandgauges.com/

Pardon, but I have to ask just to be sure, you ARE pushing the knob in while trying to reset the odometer, right?

Chris,

Wow!, you are quite the observant guy.  After reading this post I just tried the reset button on my 1970 Cadillac for the first time ever that just turned over 124k miles today after 9 years and 34k miles of driving.  Apparently it resets to 0 every 1,000 miles automatically only, and my push knob does not work either.  Will probably let that issue go for a while.  Thanks for finding another thing for me to fix.

That is not a fun job disconnecting the speedo cable (the access part, the doing is easy) and then removing the speedometer is no picnic.

Best of luck on that repair,

Thanks for the lead!  and yes, pushing the button in doesn't do anything.  It's low on the priority list, but figured I'd post a question to discuss, been a little slow here (for me anyway) lately.  I am watching the '53 eldo mentioned in another thread though.

keep trying it.  Mine didn't work either but after pushing it in several times I finally got it to engage.  Works easier every time I use it.

While looking in the owners manual for something else, I came across the instruction on how to reset the trip odometer.

Push in and turn knob clockwise until it reads 999 then release.  Push in again, turn clockwise to 999 again, then release.  Push in again, turn counterclockwise to 000.

Works fine.

I highly recommend reading the owners manual.

You'RE kidding.
I just push mine in and turn. All numbers line up and it eventually hits zero.
