LOL !!   Yes I'm teasing a little bit, but that kind of money for that car!

Is that good or bad for our hobby?

Should we all start buying whatever is for sale or do we start selling into the bubble?

Remember its really musical chairs...............where's the top and where is the bottom!?!?

Why would you say you were the highest bidder if you were not?
Its not even funny?
I'm on this forum  to participate in anything positive about Cadillacs and particularly the 53 Eldo, not waste my time.

Tony,

There was a long thread with a lot of people arguing about this car and then the thread got locked.
He was just making a joke.

Agreed.

We all remember buying cars really cheaply years ago, but then wanting to get the highest price when selling.

It is ourselves that are stopping the "youngsters" from joining us by not sharing our fortunate ownership.

BUT, that is Consumerism, Commercialism, and to some extent, greed.

Good point, Bruce.

We should all think about when was the last time someone gave us something of great value, simply because we valued it more that someone else with a thicker wallet.

I know that I have been fortunate in that respect, but not for a long time.

If nothing else, the sale price makes good the case that predictions of the demise of the old car hobby have been greatly exaggerated.

Kinda defeats the purpose of posting the link after the auction is over.  How we supposed to bid on it now??

Ha Ha!

Seriously?  $3 really large?

Good golly.

jeez.

$71,000 seems cheap compared with other hobbies , for the money I know what Id rather have.
Look at the link below.

True. Estimated 50-100 of those comics in existence with an original price of 10 cents.

With unlimited funds I could never justify that price but the market proves there are those that will.

71 K for the Eldo was a great price for one particular reason, there are no other builders out there. For someone that enjoys the process of restoring a car from the past as rare as a 53 eldo these cars just do not pop up on a daily basis. Just goes to show that the true value of any item for sale anywhere regardless if its an Eldorado, a comic book or a rock on the sidewalk is what someone is willing to pay for it. Maybe not smart in someone elses eyes but at that moment that is the actual value. I know the fellow that paid over 600K for the 57 eldo, some people think he was foolish to spend that amount but he has been offered way over that amount to sell it so to him he did quite well on the buy.

Boy, that is the biggest first bid I have ever seen on any auction site.

Starting bid of $0.99, and then first bid of $1,000,000.00, and up it went.

Ray, its hard to argue with you but, I've been looking for a new project for a while now and inevitably I meet with a grandson or an elderly son who's grandfather or father has passed away and they now have a "Classic Cadillac project" to sell.

What I almost always hear is, after my reasonable offer, is "I saw this car on RM or Barrett Jackson auctions sell for $200K on TV!!

I stand there and say No you didn't see this car go for that much money because of this cars condition or the car you saw was a rare convertible or a rare Eldorado.

One of my visits, the guy told me that standard line and there was a push lawn mower sitting on the hood of this "Classic Cadillac project" !!  Grandpa cleverly used the windshield wiper to hold the mower from rolling off.

I'm convinced that 90 percent of the people who like old cars wouldn't know the difference between a 1953-1959 Eldorado and a 1986 Buick.

The money now flying around our hobby may be good for the hobby but I wish there was some amount of reasonableness in it.   It is really frustrating.
