57 Cadiilac Front Fender Chrome

Can someone tell me why the hardware on the front fender chrome is shaped like it is , where the clamp only touches on both ends and is up in the middle ! Trying to  figure out if I can use other hardware ! As always I truly appreciate any help !!!

My guess is that it distributes the screw pressure across a greater area.   There's really no logical reason why they used that hardware.
