The hood hinges are loose and sloppy,  has any one found a hard ware store special bolt that can be used to replace the worn studs as the repaired ones as I have noticed, are very pricey.

SMS in NH restore the hinges.  Best way is to buy a core set and send them off for restoration.  Then switch them and sell or retain the originals.  That is what I did.  The rivet wear an oblong hole in the metal section of the hinge.  material has to be welded in, drilled, and bushed to make them good again.

Viator,
If a guy has the time,he can restore the hinges himself. Every city has a bearing shop which sells bushings.(cheap)I did a disassembly, reamed and bushed my 1955 hinges using oil lite bronze bushings. I also oil them now to prevent future problems.....walt....tulsa,ok

It is even easier to buy those oil bronze bearings in any configuration and size over the internet, got my convertible top mechanism bearings for piston hook over the internet-so easy

Hello Scot and Walt,,, what- how, do you do to replace the pin-rivets when rebuilding the hinge.  I am familiar with oil-ite bushings from when I was working.

Hello all;  In trying to adjust my hood hinges, two bolts from the inner fender bracket are loosened to move the hinge, two more bolts, one at the end of the 10" long arm going into the top of the cowl and another at the back of the hinge going into the front side of the cowl.  All these bolts seem to prevent any adjusting to have the hood rear corners go all the way down.  Have any posters out there have results with these adjustments.  I have looseness issues W/ my hinges, is there any way around my problem??  V. Viator,
I think you already know the answer to that question.  The hood's adjustments essentially hinge (pardon the pun) on the hoood hinges and springs.  If the hinges are worn or the springs have lost their temper there is no way that you can effectively adjust them to maintain the correct alignment.  Most all of us have gone through this exercise in futility.  Bite the bullet and have your hinges repaired by one of the specialists in this field and your hood will be "align-able".

If your problem is the corners don't pull down you need to raise the hinge assemblies up.   I don't remember if 74 is the same as 73 but if it is I think you may need to use shims to deal with the cowl bolts.
