I have enclosed two photos of my bare dash, you will notice several slots on the top. I cant remember if something bolts to this from the bottom or not. Do not want to send it off and should have sent something with it that should have been fastened to these holes. Don't want them covered and create problems later . As always any and all help is truly appreciated.

Dennis , the slots are for the Air Con vents or are you referring to the holes ? , I don't know why you are sending the dash out I thought you would have listened & got a dash off autoline.se  & saved yourself time & money & had a correct looking dash.  I suppose it doesn't matter any way as you are now planning a semi custom I noticed you are after Chrome valve covers .

Dennis Branch

Grant, I am sending it to Just Dashes, but somehow I have lost the photos I took of removing the stuff off the top of the dash. What I am actually referring to is the holes in the dash that have a hour looking glass sideways on the circle. I am keeping the car as original as possible but yes thought a little chrome under the hood may add a little excitement. I truly appreciate your great expertise and everyone else that has helped me put this thing back together one piece at a time.

Those holes don't look right to me.  With or without air.  Just Dashes will make it right.

Do you have Autronic Eye?

Yes, that looks like a dash cover with A/C for a 57 Cadillac.

Those slotted holes will connect a long plastic like box underneath the dash that feeds air to those large a/c vents.

Find that strange looking plastic like box, its shaped like Long Island, fat on one end and thin on the other. This boxes runs a long way under the dash, starts from the passenger side and goes over to that last A/C vent on the drivers side.

Pre-fit box to the dash cover underside, see if you need to put fasteners on the dash before Just Dashes takes it or can you do it when it comes back from them.

I hope some of this rambling made sense.

Mike, I am doing that today. That is what I thought after I got home last night. Will pre fit and see if It looks like anything goes there.
Thanks

That does make sense.   I have a non air car.  I guess the textured metal trim is big enough to cover the holes.

The textured metal trim stop before the AC vents and won't be anywhere close to covering the duct hardware slots. They are only covered by the pad material as far as I can understand.

So this has already been stripped of the cover.  I never took the cov er off mine because of that rotted foam rubber.   The whole thing went in the box and out to California.   Just Dashes was expensive ($800 15 years ago) but the work was really impeccable.

Just dashes did the pad on our Biarritz about 15 years ago too, very happy with their work. It was a chore getting the pad out there and back from Scandinavia though! Will try Autoline in Sweden this winter for my Seville's pad, they're "only" a 4 hour drive away from my house  :D

Walter I wish I paid $800, last year they did a 3 piece 1960 Eldorado dash pad for me, it was $2400 with shipping back and forth to Connecticut.

The dash was absolutely perfect though.  It just lights up the interior with its quality.

It will be interesting to know your experience with Autoline. I sent a Brougham dash from Switzerland to Just Dashes many years ago, I would do it again if needed. I organized a dash from Autoline for a guy in France. The result is not so fantastic; Autoline never sent the paint they promised because they packed the dash in a "light" manner. I have to say that I was not there when the French guy installed the dash; therefore I cannot blame Autoline too much if the process of bonding the dash to the base plate was not done properly. Others had good experience with this company.

Is autoline cheaper than Just Dashes for those of us in the US?  Seems like shipping to/from Sweden would be pretty expensive.

I'm not sure, but Autoline may have an outlet in the US.

I spoke with Autoline earlier this year and they recommended letting them do the installation especially with an AC dash so that's what I'll do. Autoline can be tough to get a hold of sometimes though.

For a black 57/58 dash pad they charge 6000 Swedish kroner, add another 1000 if you want a different color. Also add 500 if you want the pad installed on the metal board.

Exchange rate for Swedish kroner-USD is 0.14 so about $1050 for a color pad installed.
