I just found this on eBay and bought it, it's a snapshot taken in 1942 on Vine Street at Hollywood Boulevard, outside the Brown Derby, of Charles Boyer sitting inside his 1941 Cadillac convertible coupe. It's dark, with a black canvas top...

Neat to find something like that.  Everything pops up on ebay eventually.

I can probably go one better than that a far as ebay finds go. How about the original street signs .
These were taken down in 1942 when the new style signs were rolled out. The elderly gentleman I got them off had kept them since then.
Story was his then young mate worked on the crew replacing them. He told his mate get me HOLLYWOOD AND VINE. . and forgot about it. 3 months later his mate dropped them off.
The BLVD is the giveaway. After 42 the font was reduced...
A true piece of American history.

In the original picture, isn't that a 1940 Series 52 LaSalle sedan across the street?

Barry,
It looks more like a 1940 Buick Super or Roadmaster to me, because of the ornament/turn signal  lights above the license plate.

Bob and Barry,

Thanks for this special 41 photo in Hollywood, and you two guys are very sharp and continue to amaze me of your insight and knowledge of these Cadillac's.

Bob, I think you're right. You can barely see the belt molding as well.

Hello

Charles Boyer selected a rare vehicle.  Total Cadillac production was limted to 16,513 in 1942, with 4,961 Series 62 models produced.  Approximately 300 convertibles were built due to the war.
All good men own a Cadillac but great gentlemen drive a LaSalle. That is the consequence of success.

Steve Passmore

It says the picture was taken in 42 CR but the car is a 1941 62 series with a production of about 3000 convertibles.

Bob, good catch.
The new 1940's GM C Torpedo bodies had similarities with exception of the grille, dashboard and upholstery. The Torpedo C bodies were used from the Cadillac to the Pontiac. The C bodies were inspired by Bill Mitchel's 1938 60S.
Besides your finding concerning the Buick's emblem directional sign, the gasoline fuel filler lid is located on left lateral rear fender X the La Salle with the fuel filler cap clearly visible around the same area.
