What is the right orientation for the rearmost main bearing shells? My recollection is that main bearings I've previously encountered just had a single groove in the center.

The bearings that I got form Egge machine have two grooves, offset, and one half of the bearing has a window cut into it.

What is the correct orientation to install these bearings into the block and cap? Both have a "tang", which allow the shells to be installed in two possible orientations, as a set. That window in one of the grooves doesn't seem to line up with anything. Which is right, grooves towards the inside of the engine, or the outside?

Note that this is actually a LaSalle engine bored out to 346 zero-over spec, and a Cadillac 346 parts kit. I thought the blocks were identical other than the bore ... but maybe there is a difference in the oiling system?

The bearing with the window fits in the cap so oil can seep back into the sump.

The bearing orientation is as Steve noted, there is a discussion about the differences in the bearings in the tank manual starting on page 66.
