So, here I was thinking I was about done with vacuum hoses...the one that goes from under the air cleaner to the ALC input was missing, so--no problem, I buy a hose....but then, I go to install it:

I find that the inlet to the ALC system is connected to the PCV hose, while the vacuum port on the ALC (supposed to go to the PCV hose), is routed to the T pipe just ahead of the firewall.

So, it seems both ports on the ALC system are vacuum.  Is there a reason someone might have done this to solve a particular problem?  (It would be nice if GM included a comprehensive vacuum diagram in its shop manuals.)

My first thought is to just disconnect the hose that goes from the T in front of the firewall and connect it to the port under the air cleaner, and cap the T.  But I am still left non-spec.  Anyone have a comprehensive diagram of the vacuum hoses under the hood?

Thanks!

I would say that someone had been working on the engine, and forgot where the hoses went to when putting it back together.

You definitely don't want the two hoses to be drawing vacuum.

I think that the vacuum hose was designed to go to the PCV hose as this hone has the largest internal diameter, and the best suction capacity.

William,

I have  comprehensive vacuum diagram for a 1970 Cadillac published by Cadillac as a supplement to the shop manual.  In 1974 Cadillac did include a comprehensive vacuum diagram in shop manual and in 1970 they did not, not sure what was the first year, but can find out.  Let me know if you want the 1970 diagram
