Hi,
I´m having a hard time identifying these three parts:
One is a perfect circle cruise control unit #1487493 - I can´t find the number anywhere:

The other parts are these trunk pulldown units: (I think they are for 1958)

They have two different part # though #5044350 and #5044262 (Update - 5044262 is definitely a 1958 unit)

Any hints would be highly appreciated!
Thanks!
Gerald

Gerald,

The bottom two look like early electric powered door locks circa '58-59. The top one appears to be late 60's CC, possibly 69 or later.

Gerald,

Attached are two photos of my '67 Sedan DeVille cruise control unit.  The part number is 1490048 which is a sequentially higher number than yours.  This would seem to indicate that yours is earlier than '67.  However, on my cruise control you will notice the motor cover is all the same color/finish and it is held in place with through bolts.  Yours appears to be held by a band clamp and the motor cover is black.  I have to think that the band clamp is less costly to manufacture and install than through bolts.  This would indicate a cruise control later than '67 if we think that GM was trying to save a few pfennigs.  I do not have a master parts book so I can not provide you with a definitive answer.  Hopefully someone else can.

By the way,  your website is great.  I recently viewed the photos of your new garage.  What is the height of the ceiling and did you consider making it taller?

I successfully identified one of the trunk pulldown units as a 58 unit.
I just went down to my garage and compared the numbers to the one in my Eldorado Seville and its the same.
So #5044262 is a 1958 unit, the other one looks almost identical but has a different part number on the motor - maybe its from a later or earlier year...
Thanks Ralph and Christopher for your quick reply!

Hi Christopher,
thanks for the pictures - your 67 unit looks very similar.
I too think that it might be a later model year.
I had a look in the master parts list and unfortunately it does not list the power unit as a whole assembly. I have the 1965 to 1975 manual and they only list all the individual cruise control parts but not the unit as a whole... :-(

Thanks for your kind words on my website and my garage - I appreciate it.
The interior of the garage is 270cm on the lower side and and 3,40 on the higher side (at the doors). I would have loved to build it much higher but the costs would have been considerably higher. So I had to make a compromise... I do have a pit in my other garage where I can work on my cars so I do not have to install a lift anywhere.
My long term plan is to build a 50s style gas station to the side of the garage with an included workshop and a man cave - but I have to win in the lottery first to make it happen ;-)

all the best,
Gerald
