Is there a possibility that 1959-60 Cadillac 2-door hardtop rear quarter window sills would work on the convertible? They do have different part #s, which would say not...but someone out there may know something that I am not aware of. The hardtop P/Ns are 430-1620 and 430-1621. The convertible P/Ns are 430-1696 and 430-1697. I obviously need the lower sills for my convertible.

Sorry for what may be a dumb question, but...

They are completely different. You cannot interchange them.

A very hard item to locate. You can get from a series 62 conv and then get a ss specialist to weld the holes for the press studs. I found a pair of 59 Biarritz ones years ago and paid alot then. Not selling mine though. Apparently 59 and 60 are different part # but I had a 60 and a 59 and couldn't tell a difference.

I may have what your looking for. Are you talking about the trim that goes from the door jamb on top of the quarter to the well trim? In total 4 pieces,2 "j`s" & 2 next to the quarter window. If so I do have Eldorado quarter trim ,with NO snaps of coarse.

Whit

Actually I was referring to the aluminum frame that holds the quarter window and rotates downward when the window is opened. I referred to that as the lower quarter window sill (maybe improperly) and may have confused the issue.

Also, I may indeed need the trim in your posted the photo, I'll check through all my trim and get back to you.

Thanks for the response.   Whit

The rear window frame is diecast and very prone to cracking. It's an L shape. Just about every 59 60 conv has cracked frames.
There are brackets you can install to strengthen the vulnerable area. There are repops frames on ebay from time to time for about $700 each. I may have a spare pair of used originals if you are stuck. You will need to buy repop upper u channels.
I may be able to make the L frame in ss for you also. I have made 59 ones a few years ago. I just made a pair for a53 Eldo. Unbreakable.

Weren't the frames the same on Buick and Olds convertibles?  I could see where Pontiac and chevy may have used a slightly smaller rear quarter window but would GM, even then, not use the same frame on more than one make?

Just throwing it out there.  I'm curious myself.

You are correct on the Buick and Olds working and the Pontiac and Chevy being smaller.  If you think that having two different size quarter windows is crazy, check this out.  For 1959 and 1960 Cadillacs there are no less then three different trunk lid hinge designs.  A convertible has it's own style hinges.  The coupe shares hinges with flat top sedans and the six window sedans have yet another style trunk hinge.  To me, that's the most insane logic.  Obviously the convertible needs the most compact design.  Therefore wouldn't they just use that for all body types?? It seems to be a big waste of money.

There's my two bits

Thanks

Unbelievable!   All that trouble for a trunk hinge?  Logic would have to follow that these same hinges were shared with Buick and Olds as well.

When I couldn't find certain parts for the '57, I started calling Buick and Olds suppliers.   They had the parts.

I purchase a pair of reproduction lower rear quarter window frames and the upper frames from Caddy Daddy for my 59 and 60 and the quality and fit were excellent.
