Does anyone know whether a 1951-55 Cadillac hydramatic transmission will fit a 1941 Cadillac 346 L-Head V8 engine that originally had a 3-speed manual transmission attached to it?

I understand that the 1951 Cadillac hydramatic has a smoother reverse mechanism than the original 1941 hydramatics had, so I was thinking of picking up a 1951 hydramatic.

But before I pick it up, I though I'd ask if anyone here knows whether it will actually fit.

I'd sure appreciate it if you can let me know.

Thanks!

Doug Houston

Yes, it will. You'll need the complete throttle linkage from '41, bell housing from a 46-48, fluid coupler from a 46-48, U-joint yoke for the trans rear,  shift and   tv valve levers for a '41 (only), and a 46-48 flywheel.

If you want the selector positions to match the selector quadrant, you'd use a '51 Cadillac trans. You can use a later one, but the  selector points will not quite line up.

Thanks a bunch, Doug. The tranny I was looking at was a 1954, and since I want the quadrants to line up, I'll have to keep looking for a 1951 hydramatic.

Any ideas where I might be able to find one?

Thanks!
