According to today's almanac section in the local paper, on this day in 1911, Charles Kettering demonstrated his electric auto starter in Detroit by starting a Cadillac with the press of a switch.

Sounds like a good name for a magazine.

Whoopee.   This is how this turning point in history is acknowledged.

No wonder Cadillac is failing.

Walter,

To be honest, when I saw the title of the subject, I was thinking this pertained to the club's magazine.  The test of Kettering's self starter was announced on Detroit's WWJ radio on the 104th Anniversary of this event, as part of their "this day in history" feature every weekday morning.  It is, without a doubt, one of the greatest inventions in automotive history.  Most of us alive have grown up with this feature, so it is taken for granted.
