Cadillac CTS

"Again shattering stereotypes, this Cadillac out-handles rivals from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. Sharp and poised, the CTS entices you to take the long-and-twisty way home. Opulent interior finish and a composed ride keep the Cadillac from being a one-note athlete. First-year reliability has been above averageâ€"impressive for a clean-sheet design. One big gripe: As much as we love driving the CTS, we loathe interacting with its fiddly and unintuitive CUE infotainment system."

It is great to read this, although Consumer Reports is not the finest automotive journal and its authority is much less highly regarded in recent years. The newest Cadillacs have received many other fine reviews, too. Cadillac is obviously making some fine driving and riding automobiles! At this time, I am cautiously optimistic for our favorite marque under its new leadership--reinventing the brand completely may, in my opinion, be too much. Remember the attempt to introduce and market "New Coke?" Some established product icons are served best by retaining clues of their heritage. I surely wish Cadillac Motor Division the best in the challenging luxury car market.

Why is it that every review you ever see, even the otherwise good ones, hammers CUE?  It is a little complicated, but what system managing so many options ISN'T complicated these days?

I canceled my subscription to Consumer Reports, telling them they don't give American cars enough respect.

Maybe the magazine is owned, controlled, printed or funded by non US based organisations?

Funny this comes up as I was waiting for a prescription for my Wife today and glanced at the consumer reports issue there. I noted they hated the Dodge Challenger. I had a 2011 I bought new and sold about 3 months ago with 70,000 miles on it. It never missed a beat while I owned it. However the magazine LOVES foreign cars. Seems fishy to me.

I've been a regular peruser of Consumer Reports for many years, thanks to my father-in-law's subscription gift every Christmas.  It is clear that they dislike any system in a car that requires a higher education level than second grade to operate.  But I do find the expected reliability information very useful since I keep my daily drivers for a long time.  A full black circle (or half black) under reliability steers me in another direction.

Speaking of the CTS, I was just getting tires for one of my daily drivers and while waiting I read an article in a car magazine stating Cadillac's only real money maker is the CTS, the other models are undersold with the market gone back to the imports again. Audi now passed Cadillac's numbers for the first time.

Article also stated Cadillac is moving it's headquarters to New York city.

The third-generation CTS will soon be surpassed by the CT6 (to be officially revealed on March 31, 2015 at the New York International Auto Show) as the Cadillac with the latest engineering and technology. From the details Cadillac is incorporating into the CT6, it should be quite a car. Those interested should check-out this article:

I've been following "Consumers' Report" when it was entitled "Consumers' Union," and up through 1967, ALL Cadillacs we considered desirable both as new cars and as used cars.   From then on, the magazine has been slavishly critical of Cadillac. So why the "shift" to foreign brands?

Caddysmack

Fn'A it does! It'd much rather have a Cadillac than a BMW or Mercedes any day. But then, I suppose that's why I'm here.
