Water pump Frustration

I bought a great 'looking' water pump rebuild kit from Caddy Daddy, and it has turned our to be a major issue. The kit was not cheap and I find out, after purchasing it, that it requires machining of the new impeller and the original casting to install this kit properly. I don't own a machine shop. What happened to a 'water pump kit' that you just installed?

In reality, the original pump parts that I have are fine except for the shaft seal (P/N 145-1886). So far I have not found a source for this seal...does anyone out there know where I could hope to find one?

I hope that Caddy Daddy will take this kit back...the machining required will cost me more than the kit...and the combined cost would equal the cost of a new or re-built water pump. That is crazy! What am I missing here...?

Added:  My car is a 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible with a 390 engine.

Pump for what car Whit?  If its for the flathead years ago I found the seals were the same as a garage floor jack, absolutely identical but don't ask me what jack.

Whit,

I highly recommend Carl Constantino in Sicklerville NJ.

He has a home based business and does fuel and water pumps among other things.

I sent him my 60 waterpump and fuel pump and got them back quickly and the rice was great.

Send him your stuff, call him first.1-609-462-7412.

I've been to his shop and his work and pricing are excellent as well as the turnaround time.

I bought a Chrysler Sebring convertible from him. Mention my name.
