I am reinstalling instrument cluster and a little confused. Anyone know if the ammeter has 2 wires on each terminal? When I removed it I marked wires as best as I could but room is so limited that much was done by feel. The two extra wires I have were 10 gage with open terminals and I think the might have come off while I was removing the two two closed terminals

Mine only has one heavy wire per terminal.
However looking a the service manual wiring diagram I could see where the amp meter could be used as a junction.
There is a poor instrument cluster diagram in the service manual showing only two wires.
I have included a photo of what's in my car.

Thank you Fred-
The diagram is a little hard to read. It does show a red and black on right and red on left #10 wire
Which I have.
The problem is I also have two other wires that are clearly marked amp meter

Is it an original harness or a replacement? Do the extra wires go into the harness sheathing?

tturley

I am not sure it is original but it looks like it. They do and are #10 with open ends?
Also color coded to go to ammeter

If they are colour coded you might be able to trace them? As I said in your other thread 39 shows 5 wires connecting to the ammeter but sometimes the wires are joined within the loom so you don't see so many at the terminal.
The wires you could have at the ammeter are.
One from the starter relay.
One from the horn relay.  These will connect to one of the terminals.

One to the ignition switch.
One to the lighting switch.
One to the 'Bat' terminal of the regulator.  These connect to the other terminal so look for these colour codes at these other places.  Or rig up a test light and find them.

Not sure if these are the diagrams you have but I thought I would post them here just in case.

You may have a replacement harness that has added wires. Can you post a photo of an open and a closed terminal end? They may help those here determine if it is in fact original or modern.
