Working on a 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood, low mileage car that runs rough.  Prior mechanic removed original carb and a rebuilt one was installed, which made the car run worse, and very rich.  I'm think the carb is not correct but it could be here is the info.

Original Carb and core 1976 carb I have in stock is 1705 6230, which presume is correct.

The carb on the car is a 1705 7230 and the car does not run well.

Please let me know if the 1705 6230 is correct for 1976 Cadillac and if the 1705 7230 is correct also for 1976 Cadillac.  Thinking that the 7 is for 77 and the 6 is for 76, but no idea really.

Thanks,

Very little difference in the two carbs.  If it is running rich I would look at the settings, since the later (than 76) carbs were in fact if anything leaner.

Greg,

I agree.  After all the 72 Eldorado has a 69 carb and it runs fine.

The mechanic should have informed the owner of this change.  The mechanic should have made these adjustments.  I do not have confidence that the carb is rebuilt correctly.

The owner is interested in an authentic all correct parts type of car.  He gave me the original carb so I will rebuild it (I have another 1976 carb that I could rebuild if the original cannot).  This is a 35k mile car, came in second at GN2014.

Thanks,

Scot

Is it a green 76 FW?  If so, I remember checking it out at Lake George.  Bloody nice car.

Dan,

That is the car.  Like all classics it has a few curable drivability issues.  The owner just want to get it 100% so he can hand the keys to his mother and she could drive it without as if it was 1978.

It is a super nice car.
