I'm in the process of restoring all window components on my 49 as a part of a HydroLectric restoration.  Original rigid run channel is two pieces on front division bar - stainless above and steel below.  I'm guessing it was done to save on stainless costs.

Is there any reason not to use the one the piece stainless run channel instead of the two?

Not sure about the 49 but this is typical to 40 and 41.  The plain channel is a little deeper than the SS type at least what is sold now.  It really isn't much extra trouble to do it like it was and the deeper channel down low may be a bit more secure in holding the window in the down position.
