Henning,
Are you asking what is the valve lift specifications for the motor or what would be the maximum possible before coil bind at the valve?

Making the assumption that you want to change cam shafts, the only safe way to do this would be a physical check with modeling clay.  Pull a head, put say 3/4 inch of cclay where the valve will approach the piston (on top of the piston), re4-assemble (with head gasket),, rotate the engine and see what happens to the clay.  That will tell you what you have now, and give you a starting point for a new cam. OR, I might suggest calling Iskenderian Cams.  They were experts at cams, etc. for those motors and maybe Ed will still have the information around.

Henning,

The MPL shows the intake and exhaust valves to be the same for 1954-1956. The engine specs for the 1955 and 1956 shows the valve lift to be .411”, attached is the 1956.

Good luck..!
