While I was fixing (or messing up depending on your perspective...) various bits and pieces on the '68 I decided to investigate the slight noise coming from the diff - jesus those buggers are heavy and hard to get apart !

The crown wheel and pinion etc are all fine but it turns out the bearings are well past their prime hence the rumbling noise.

Does anyone know of a good source for replacement bearings ?

She's a lovely old girl but is currently demanding more attention that all the others put together.

Russel,
You might check rock auto.  Get the Timkin or National bearing number and see if a local (UK) bearing supplier might bave them, or order them and pay for their ride across the pond.

Russell,

I just happened to be looking at Timken's on-line automotive application guide for cars 1989 and older because I may need to replace my rear wheel bearings.

I think the first two line items are the differential side bearings.  Pinion bearings are listed under Pinion.  For my rear wheel bearings ('67 Sedan DeVille), the part number in the Timken application guide is the same number as the number for the National wheel bearing on Rockauto's website.  I did not look at Rockauto's diff. bearing listings.  Rockauto did have the best price for my wheel bearings, and they ship world-wide.  So, Cameron, Miliband, or UKIP?  Cheers,

Thanks Chris, we'll probably end up bringing them in from the States (no doubt Rock Autos if they stock everything) as they don't appear to be available here which is a bummer.

With regards your "So, Cameron, Miliband, or UKIP?" comment, that's like asking me if I'd prefer to be hung, drowned or burnt. It's an impossible choice because you don't want any of them !

I'm trying to locate the bearings to repair my '68 diff but some parts appear to be unavailable in the uk.

Here's where I am so far:
-------------------------------------
Diff bearing
Inner ball races 2xHyatt 25584T (available in UK)
Outer 1x25545NDH (unavailable in UK)
Outer 1x25520NDH (available in UK)

Pinion bearings
Outer 1xHM804810NDH (No luck so far - awaiting response from suppliers)
Inner 1xHM804846NDH (No luck so far - awaiting response from suppliers)
Outer 1xHM89410 (No luck so far - awaiting response from suppliers)
Inner  1xHM89448 (No luck so far - awaiting response from suppliers)
-------------------------------------

I also need a new pinion seal.

I'm not concerned about the manufacturer so long as they're a known (or recommended) brand, Rock Autos have some (but not all) of the parts required whilst some of the cadillac dealers seem to have them all but charge crazy prices.

Any suggestions or recomendations where to buy ?

Did you try RockAuto? They usually have a lot, and are very helpful when you give them a ring (just mind the time difference :D).

As mentioned in my previous post, I've checked online but they don't stock all of the parts.

If you call do they have other non-online parts available ?
