I have a 39 Lasalle I just started redoing the cooling system,as I took off the water necks on each head I noticed the hole in the block was different in both heads not sure if it's suppose to be that way I attached a picture of each port so you can better understand what I'm talking about, please let me know if it looks normal to you guys thanks

Sorry it won't let me post pictures, but the driver side hole in the dead is just as big as the water neck, and the passenger side hole in the head is only about a quarter inch

Steve Passmore

Its perfectly normal, its to force water to the block farthest from the pump.

The quarter inch sound a little small.  Without going out and looking at an old head it seems it is more like 1/2".  Poke around in it and maybe there is a lot of corrosion reducing its diameter.

Yeah its about 1/2", so it sounds like things are the way they should be

The small hole is on the side where the water pump is as there is more pressure there.

Do you realize how old this thread is Bernie? and it's really self-explanatory as used on the wrong side the outlet would be at the back!
