A friend of a friend of mine has a Lincoln Continental with a Cadillac flathead installed.  He is thinking of removing same and installing a V12 correct engine.  I told him I would put the serial number of the flathead on this forum to see if someone can identify the year.  If it becomes available for sale, I will post it on this forum also.  Number:DR022846CAL.  Note: the 6 could be a G.

No such flathead number as that Tony. Exactly where did you get it from? If its a pre war flathead the number is on the bell housing near the distributor base,    but be careful as there are two numbers there. If its post war the number is on a flat piece of casting above the water pump like an extended block surface.

Tony,
Is this a flathead Six? Steve is correct, there is no such number. The giveaway might be the first letter "D" which could designate a Dodge Motor. How about a few pics?.

I concur with Steve except the move of the engine number from the rear of the engine to near the water pump occurred with the 1942 models - not post war.   A photo is always helpful.

Thank you all for your quick replies.  Indeed this belongs to a friend of a friend of mine.  I am leaving country Mon. am.  I will contact him next week and get more specific answers.  Again, as always, thank all of you for your willingness to help.

Yes your absolutely right Jeff, my concentration lapse and of coarse this change included all the war time engines. I have seen several Cadillac and Buick engines with weird numbers where a re-building shop has deliberately ground them off and re-placed it with one of their own numbers. I also have an engine with no numbers, ground of with block re-surfacing years ago.
