After putting my dash back together, I've got one electrical connector left over, and can't figure out where it goes. Can anyone identify it?  It has a gray lead, like the instrument panel lights, but it's not a light, and I don't see it on the wiring diagram.

That is a light fitting, but the black tubing in the socket is a factory-installed dummy light socket, so that the internal live end cannot come into contact with anything metal and short out, blowing the dash light fuse.

The Wiring Loom has the socket for an item that is not fitted to your particular car.

Could be for an accessory that isn't installed.   Cheaper to make the looms with all the possible requirements than making up multiple looms for differing items.

Modern cars have lots of plugs that aren't used in the basic car.

Hi David,

Bruce is 100% correct.  That particular light fitting would be used if the car was equipped with cruise control.

Good luck with your car,

Bruce and Joshua:

Thanks.  I didn't think of that, but I'm glad to know; saves an unnecessary visit inside the dash.  Cruise is the one thing my car doesn't have.
