Whit

I am restoring my '60 Eldorado Biarritz and I am trying to be as factory correct as is reasonable. On the subject of what to paint what, I know that the underside of the hood is satin black (not body color). My question is: what color were the hinges painted (black or body color)...if body color, they were likely painted with the body and the bolts would also be body color...?

I also understand that the underside of the front fenders were black...my question is: where was the parting line? Does body color just roll over edge where the underside is black? Also, there are welded on brackets on the fender that attach to the radiator framework...were they painted body color, or black?

Any help or insight will be most appreciated.                Whit

If you are striving to maintain your car in authentic condition I suggest you purchase an "Authenticity manual" from the club. Hopefully a fellow 60 Barritz owner will be able to help. I have been on a long period of restoration thinking I was doing it right and do have the authenticity manual for my 1942-6719 but upon reviewing it yesterday I found several small  items I will need to correct if I am going to place it in competition next year at the Grand National

Unfortunately there is no manual yet for the 59/60's.

Sad but true.

Whit, I would use the wheel opening molding as the demising point.  Brackets under the fender in black.

I would have to assume that the car was painted with the molding not yet installed, so body color overspray would be acceptable just inside the front fender.  I have my 60 Eldo front end all apart being a black car I cannot be of much help BUT there is a lot of factory undercoating all over the inner fender and splash aprons that face the road or tires.  They may have blacked out the wheelwells too after the car was painted because for example on a white car, having white overspray in the wheelwells would just look sloppy, at least to me.

Hope this is helpful.

Brian and Gary:

Helpful...thanks. I looked at a lot of images of a '60 Biarritz on the computer and think I see what I need to do. Basically, when you look down on the top of the fender, everything you see (on the fender) needs to be body color. Also, the hinges are black.

Thanks again   Whit

Hood hinges are not black, they are a goldish cad color.

I'll try to email you some photos tonight of cars I have been using for research info that I think are correct.  But the hinges are not black...
