Hello, All:

My driver's side power window has stopped working. It was kind of strange. I tried to put it up, it would travel an inch and stop. If I waited 10 seconds or so, I could get it up another inch. 10 seconds one inch, 10 seconds one inch, etc. In a few minutes it was all the way up.

I presume it's just a bad motor and I need to replace it. Yes, no?
Can I get such a motor and where would I look?

Thanks,
Rick

It's either the motor or something making it difficult for the motor to lift the window. They have an internal breaker or sorts that makes them trip if the switch is held up or down at the end of the travel.

I'd see if cleaning and lubing the track does anything.

There are lots of sellers on eBay that scour junkyards and have motors.

I have bought stuff from an ebay user called "njsurfer" and they are in CA and seem to get lots of nice Cadillac items. Maybe try them. You can also check to see if a company like Dorman sells new motors through Rockauto.com.

If it was the motor, would it really do the 10 second delay thing?

There's either a resistor or a capacitor on the motor itself that acts as a circuit breaker.  When it goes bad, this is how the motor acts.  And always when closing, not opening.
