Hi,

The friend's cadillac '59 had a borrowed Hydramatic last summer while the original transmission
was out to be reconditioned. For the lend Hydramatic we had to buy a another starter motor,
since the original '59 did not fit.

Now the transmission is ready but the starter motor has disappeared to a black hole from the garage :o
and of course now this a year ago bought starter doesn't fit the '59 transmission.

Now i am looking for a reasonably priced starter; what years starter motor would fit a '59?
(and what year-range might have been the borrowed Hydramatic and this Starter motor fit, are there many possibilities?)

Thanks.

I have a 1956 series 62 with a 365 original engine and the starter is a #1107657 and that is correct for all Cadillac's built after May of 56. Prior to that they had starter #1107642. The original shop manual for 56 only refers to the 1107642 # because it was written before the May change. Either one should work for you. Hope that helps ,,,good luck.

see if you can get a cross reference book at the local parts store, there may a multitude of starters that are interchangeable with the 390 starter.
