SURE--- it is A SHAME--   No really--- I see a 1946 or so Cadillac series 75 that someone cut up and made a new use for it..

I think it was a tow truck back then. I remember seeing Cadillac tow trucks from back then on the internet before.

During WW 2 many Cadillacs were re-purposed My farrier mentor cut the back off a La Salle when he came home to be able to shoe horses with it He also traded horseshoeings for gas stamps They were gold then

Could it be a re-painted flower car?

Its actually a 1947 and it is a flower car. There's a picture of a near identical one on page 273 of '80 years of Cadillac La Salle' by Walter M.P McCall.

Many fire departments made "squad cars" out of long wheelbased cars, or even stretched some out.  Our volunteer company had a 1939 Buick Special, that had been fashioned out of a coupe that had been hit hard in the rear end.  These were used for parade cars, hauling hose, mostly for beer and hauling firemen at parades, etc.  The larger village east of us had a 2nd series Packard fashioned the same way.  The chrome rails on the sides of the rear area, and the color red further support this notion.

Can't agree with that in this case Tony. Heres a print from McCalls book which clearly shows the side rails and those incredible stainless running boards. A fire department could have indeed used it and painted it their colours but the chances are it was built as a flower car by either 'Hess & Eisenhardt' or one of the other builders of funeral cars.

Wow, she is beautiful. Do you have any more pics of it. Is this a vehicle you are looking to purchase? Where did you find it. Please give more info.
When a Doctor "saves a Life" it does not necessarily mean that that life will ever be the same as it was, but he still saved it. My 46 may not be as it was but it is still alive.

It could well be after all. Just been reading op on it that the big series Cadillacs carried over the 47 style on the commercial 48 chassis.

Caried out to '49 also.  I had a '49 7519, with the overhead.  Everything else the same.

Strange that they kept 41 style flank design to the fenders so late on the big series commercial chassis. No pontoons in the doors.

The Series 75 limousine body and chassis was carried over into 1949 Series 75s as Tony wrote.  Until 1948 the Series 86 commercial chassis (hearse, flower car) also used a body up to the cowl and many chassis parts that were the same as the Series 75.  However, beginning in 1949 the Series 86 commercial chassis used a body to the cowl and many chassis parts that are the same as the smaller Series 60, 61 and 62.
