Does anyone out there have a diagram or knowledge about the assembly of the instrument module. When trying to reassemble it, I am having trouble figuring out how the transmission gear indicator plastic parts assemble into the instrument module. I photographed a lot of things, but as luck would have it I don't have a definitive view of this area.

Thanks   Whit

Whit:

I don't have any diagrams, but recently had mine apart. One thing I recall is that the wide "u" shaped plastic piece goes upside down. The other issue I had concerned which way the wedge-shaped plastic piece at the bottom went.  I don't recall that, but I need to raise my dash this weekend to try and track down short in headlight switch wiring, so I can confirm then.

Thanks so much for the reply...I will look forward to you feedback after you pull your module and look it over. If you have a chance to take a photo or two, that would be a great help.
I too am wondering where the plastic piece with the wedge (or ramp) goes...its not obvious. I also realized today that I'm missing the pointer that shows which gear is selected...not sure I could ever find one of those and I don't know how it attaches to the clip on the steering shaft.

Looking forward to any insight that you may offer.  Thanks  Whit          whitmcfarlin@msn.com

I have a 60 cad gear shift pointer I would sell. Comes with the screew and retaining clip. $25 plus $6 to ship. Also can send a pic of where it goes. Ken Perry

I will try and take some pics.  I'm not taking the cluster out; just raising the dash up to get to the headlight switch, but hopefully there's enough space to get useful pics.  I can also draw a diagram once I have it in front of me.  I plan to do that on Saturday.  In the meantime, you should take Ken up on the pointer.  I got one from him to replace my original one, as it was slightly bent, and the tip was broken off, probably from people opening up the dash too many times without first removing the pointer.

Thanks David, I will look forward to the photos and any guidance on how the plastic 'ramp' is assembled into the module.
Ken, I will indeed buy the pointer from you. Can you send me a photo and any information on how it is attached? Also any input you may have on the assembly of the plastic pieces that surround the pointer in the instrument module.

Again, thanks to both of you for the kind help.

Whit,

We had a 60 dash and instrument cluster apart here and were stumped for a few minutes as to how those pieces fit back together.

The pointer has a bracket on it with one or two allen set screws that allow for adjustment in and out and up and down.  That bracket is held in by a cage nut that clips into a square nut on the column tube.  If that's missing you will need that too.

I checked my parts book and it does not have a good illustration.

Good luck,

Brian

Brian:
I do indeed have the square bracket that clips onto the shift tube. It has the screw in the center that expands the edges to grasp the tube square hole.

Thanks

Whit:

I went into my dash today, but didn't have it up high enough to get a picture of the bottom of the shift quadrant. But I was able to confirm that the plastic "wedge" or "ramp" piece goes with the narrow end to the left side of the car (the "P" side of the quadrant), with the wide end toward the right, or "R," with the gap for the pointer closest to the driver.  I was able to get a picture of the pointer attachment.  I hope this is useful: let me know if you need more clarification.

I wound up having to raise dash higher today, and was able to get a picture of the wedge piece under the shift quadrant, capturing what I was trying to describe in my last post.
