I'm wondering if anyone with a 39-40 Lasalle has any rubber cushions or pads where the hood meets the fender or sides for the hood. I looked for holes where maybe there might have been some rubber cushions but don't see any. The only cushioning material I see is on the cowl? The parts book isn't too clear on the late 30's cars when it comes to pictures. Yes the page is blank! Can't believe they let it be metal to metal when closed.

No, they would not have had metal to metal. On page 98 of the Cadillac Master Parts book reprinted by Faxon Auto Literature, it shows a large drawing of the hood/grill area. There are arrows pointing to what they call "bumpers" which would likely be made of rubber to cushion the hood. These are most likely available from Steele Rubber or Metro Molded Parts. You should have small holes on the top of your grill shroud where these bumpers would have gone originally. Many times these small rubber parts get old and hard and simply fall out. Some previous owner may have started to clean/paint the shroud and taken them out. In any case, that's where they go. Good luck.

I have a 40 Lasalle and it has four bumpers that are attached with the screws that holds the triangular sheet metal piece on. I got new ones from Steele.

Thanks guys. I will go back and check the books again.  I have the faxon books, but didn't notice the bumpers. My books show the split hood yrs. I have a blank page where I would expect the late 30's hoods.

Thanks Joe, Saw those couldn't pick the correct one without knowing what they look like. My triangular plate has all new screws in it. Phillips to be exact. So not sure what goes there. Also I have the master body parts list book 35-40 and the chassis parts list book 35-40 neither of which show grille area or hoods except for the 2 piece version. That's why I'm stuck. Whats correct? group 13 of the chassis book is the hood section, pg 474 &478 are blank. I figure those are the pages that should have had it. Group 6 cooling is as close as I can see. it shows a few group 13 parts .

Don't know if 50 series is the same but on the 52 series the triangular panel has square rubber pads (the first part in the Steele link for $16 ea.) in each of 4 screws.  The screws are supposed to be slotted pan head #10-24.  Again this is 52 series so not sure on 50 series.
