Since I am new, I am uncertain where to ask technical questions.  I may have posted in the wrong forum but it seems others do as well.  Should I stay out of the general discussion area with technical requests?

Sounds like you've got the gist of it. Most of the timessage we moderators will move something to a category more appropriate to get the most exposure for the inquiry.
