G.Lucas #25354

Hello, I am installing the distributor in my motor, 390, and there is a felt gasket supplied. It sits on the bottom of the drive gear and block. My concern is that it will tear up and leave fragments to flow around with the oil.  Does this need to be installed or can/should it be left out? Maybe I'm misunderstanding something. Any help would be great. Thanks George.

There NO gasket that would go inside the engine.
Just a gear to gear fit.

Need to line it up with the timing marks or put it back in exactly as the old one comes out.

Thanks Brian, thats what I thought and how it went back together. I just could not remember for sure since I had taken it apart 6 years ago. G

There is an "O" ring or gasket at the base of the distributor.
