1940 lasalle transmission

Does anybody know what transmissions are interchangeable with 1940 lasalle 5227 c. My interchange book states that 1940-1948 interchange but not 1939.  How can I verify that this is correct.

41 to 48 do not interchange with 40 unless you take them apart and change the tail shaft and tail shaft housing.  The 41 and up have a different rear bearing which requires a different drive shaft spline.  38 to 40 big series cars have different rear mounts.  The good news is most internal parts that wear are interchangeable between all years 38 to 53 with some exceptions.  Best to rebuild what you have and get a good transmission of any year to salvage good parts from.

All these transmissions will fit the back of any of the 346 engines but as Brad said the differences are in the rear sections. There may be different tail housing and support mounts plus the differences in the final drive shaft yoke. My MPB shows the 50 series as having the same yoke 39-40 so you should be OK there. The 1940 was a longer wheelbase but the difference could be just in the drive shaft.   If the box is the same length you should be OK 50 series to 50 series but you need to check it out first.
