1954 lifter tick

Bought the rebuild set from falcon global. One of the lifters is starting to tick fairly loud and I want to upgrade to a better set but what to use and where to find them.
Thanks

Does it quiet down after the oil pressure builds up?

Yes it does quiet down after warm up. Every once in awhile it will come back for a short time then go away again. I don't think its a oil pressure problem, its only the one lifter.
Thanks

Yeah oil pressure...pull the pan if you can and see if you have anything clogging the pump intake. I've heard a lifter noise once or twice in my 57 but it goes away after a minute of the engine running when cold. Nothing serious to worry about unless the noise persists

My engine machinist thinks its just a bad lifter, cheap off shore product. Just Trying to find a source for something better.
Thanks

Larry, ask Terrill Machine from were his lifters are coming from. I never had a problem with the parts Terrill is selling.

I assume you have ZDDP added to your oil? If not add some and see if it quiets down.

ZDDP is added every oil change, even tried some Marvel Mystery Oil.
Thanks

I had the same problem with my 331, but the tick was from the fuel pump rod. Changed the rod and the tick went away. In another occasion, I had a tick noise from the fuel pump reconditioned by my mechanic. Sent the fuel pump to Arthur Gould in N.Y and came back in perfect condition without any clicks or ticks.

Thanks Tito
I was thinking the fuel pump rod myself but the noise goes away fairly soon after the engine starts to warm up.
This keeps leading me back to the lifter.
I will put a stethoscope on the pump and housing in the morning just to bu sure.
Thanks for the help.

Just curious...what kind of motor oil are you using?

Pennzoil 10-30, Before that when it was warmer I used Rotella 15-40, both with ZDDP additive put in.
Same tick both oils.
Thanks
